I'm smiling 5 ways...

1.) Graduates

~My first Y-Change group graduates, lost 23 pounds and 5 inches in six weeks! More importantly they learned, "to lose weight you have to EAT- not starve AND workout." Brings a smile to my soul.

2.) College Kidz

~Yes, the professor is in the house! We meet every Tuesday/Thursday mornings to learn spinning, nutrition, & strength training. I love these guys and will be sad when the semester is over.

Five Things Fall

Fall has finally arrived here in the Old Dominion. Summer is officially gone and we are welcomed by the early morning temps of 45 and as the morning yawns and the sun comes out we warm up to 65-70. Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons of the year.

What's Awesome About Fall....

1.) Football

~I love Sunday & Monday football games. I love to get in my sweatpants, sweatshirt, & watch the Redskins play (Please fire-Jim Zorn). I might not be sitting in front of the TV the whole time, but I have to have the sound of the game piped through the house on my Bose speakers. This ritual of fall brings me back to a better time when I was a kid, so I feel somewhat nostalgic.

2. Fall Runs

~Not too cold, not too hot, just right! Virginia sure is a purty time to go on a run, the leaves are beautiful!

3.) Pumpkins on a porch

~I love the look of pumpkins on a porch. Doesn't have to be my porch, just anybodies porch. It says to me, "Welcome Fall!" I hope I don't leave mine on the porch until Christmas this year. ;)

4.) Pumpkin Spice Latte....

~Dayum you Starbucks! 300 calories (Tall) ain't too bad, right?

5.) Soups & Stews

~Back to cooking up soups, stews, & liquid elixirs. I love a cool night with hot soup and fresh bread out of the oven to go with it.

Triathlon/Racing season is officially over and I'm still thinking about what races/rides I want to do next year. I absolutely fell in love with the century, so maybe two next year or one century and one metric. I know I'll attempt to conquer the sub 2:00 in March when I do the Shamrock 1/2 Marathon but I'm not sure what else I may do in 2010.

How does everyone feel about the end of the season?
Happy Fall Ya'll!

Can I slap the 5 of you?!?

Irritating things that I needed to go on a Weslicious rant about.

1.) Kanye West....

~Your shtick is getting annoying....if acting like your load don't stink is part of a a publicity act, get a new agent bro. ::::Rolling Eyes:::::

No surpise to me when he jumped on stage, he did in back 06' when Justice & Simian's Video "We Are Your Friends" won over his "Touch The Sky" video. If only we could all have been Taylor Swift when he was done with his little rant.

Andre 3000, Common, Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Mos Def, Redman, & Antoine "Mikey Rocks" Reed grab the mic from this biznatch your rhymes are better anyway.

2.) Bill Mahar

3.) Coffee Grounds

~Love you French Press....hate you coffee grounds. Is it just me or when coffee grounds fall behind the trash can and splatter/hit everything you want to bite a pitbull?!? ;)

4.) War in Afghanistan

~Not gonna make any political statements, I told myself I wasn't going to use this blog to do that. But, I sure wish our boys could come home. We Miss You!

5.) Bad Swim Times.....

"There's a saying:

A great swim won't win a triathlon, but a bad swim can lose a triathlon.

It's true."

Nation's Triathlon Results:

Swim-1.5K-45:10>>Bike-40K-1:17:37>>Run-10K-55:48

They don't call me a "back of the packer" for nothing?

5-4-3-2-1......

5.) Why must I explain on the second day of school why, "you shouldn't jump up and try to smack the T.V. in the school hall way?"

4.) Not being a elementary school teacher this year is really weird.  I only miss it when I see my students/parents from previous years tell me they really miss me. :::sniff sniff:::

I love my new schedule; teaching Indoor Cycling to college students, spin instructing to 3 gyms, & personal training.  I know this is what I was born to do.

3.) Random bloggers who crack me up.  I love a blog that gives me a laugh & inspires me at the same time.....

~Iron "Big Balls" Missy-Hilarious and one big bad IronWoman!
~Weslicious-Loves his Wife, Family, & Tri's as much as me.
~"G"-The unsuspecting librarian that loves his n*ts@ck.
~Steve-o-speedo-giggle..giggle..giggle
~IronBob-The handsome IronMan from Florida.
~Vanilla Spice-I like to call him the intellectual comedian of the blog world.
~My Twin-He loves to run in the Texas dirt.

Honorable Mention-~Marcy~We miss you & all your tacky posts!

2.) Coffee maker broke....we are using the French Press full time now! The French Press grounds get on my nerves but it sure is worth the "extra work" involved when you pour that cup of coffee.

1.) Favorite Track of the Week....

Good Luck at the races!

5 more things...

I'll remember about summer 09'

1. Being on Red Rover....

-I love the outdoor biking season.  The Seagull Century is 51 days from now so I'm in full training mode.  I love the freedom of getting on your bike and feeling the wind in your face, the burn in your legs, & the tires pull on the road.  I try to take this experience and make it come alive in the spin room but unless you "get out there" you'll never know how great being on your bike will ever feel.  Thanks for the memories Red Rover!

2.  Spending time with these guys!

3.  Sitting on this....

-My beach chair! No, that's not me but I bet "G" wishes it were.

-No matter wear I sit you down be it the beach, Ocean Breeze, or the soccer field you never let me down and always make me feel comfortable.  I'll be sad when I put you in storage for the year.
That lady sure knows how to work that beach chair!

4.  Outdoor Coffee

-Recently my husband and I remodeled our backyard deck area.  We sit out there almost every morning listening to the birds, catching up, and sipping our yummy Starbucks.  Our newest discovery is the Rwanda brand coffee from Starbucks.

5.  Running Skorts!

-Running, spinning, shopping, or cleaning you'll catch me wearing one of these! The summer wear will rotate into fall wear and I'll be wearing capri's & pants.  I'm a real puss in the cooler months.  You may ask, "Shannon you spin in that skort?" You bet I know how to work a skirt on the bike.  Now on to Title Nine to look for some cute pants to run, spin, shop, & clean in. Any recommendations?

How was your summer?

Five Elements of Summer

So many things come to mind that have brought me joy this summer.  These were the first 5 that popped into my head.  I'll finish the summer out McLovin' on all the rest.

1. New Kicks

-Look how shiny and new they look.  Aren't they purty? I love new kicks so much I want to make a pillow for them and tuck them in every night.  "Night Asics, Mommy loves you."

2. She's 13!?!

-Her first girl/boy party.  I was eating the inside of my mouth when deciding whether or not she could have "boys at my party?" I know we all hear it but, "where does the time go?"

3. Kid's Camp
-For one week I won't hear this!-

"Mom, I'm bored."
"Mom, get off the computer."
"Hey Mom, what are we doing today?"
"Mom, I'm bored."
"Mom....mom.....MOM.....why aren't you answering me?"

4. Being Pimped Out.....

-Thank you to Janny Chou and the wonderful folks from POM Wonderful for sending me a lovely care package of 100 % pomegranate juice.  I love me some POM in my protein smoothies, my favorite adult beverage, or in a spritzer.  Think Health.......

Other companies needing me as their spokesperson (bitch), send me an email.

5.) Beaching With My "Soul-Sista"

-I love her even when she said this, "Shannon, it looks like there is a gerbil on your head!"

How is your summer going?

5 Reasons I was MIA....

1.  I got sucked into a Facebook Vortex....

2.  I was hopelessly depressed over the ending of Marcy's blog...

3.  I was trapped in "G's" basement forced to listen to Morrissey Albums

4. I've been drunk because "Iron-Balls" Missy forced me to drink the Danger Bob

The Danger Bob

"In a shaker half filled w/ice, mix one & 1/2 of tequilla
(Corralejo Reposado)
1/2 shot of Grand Marnier
1/4 shot of Cointreau
juice from one lime
a splash of OJ
shake & pour into salted martini glass"

5.  I've been busy...busy....busy...

I'm shuffling between making sure the summer is fun for my children and jump starting my fitness career.  I'm in the final stages of the Personal Training Cert., I started two new spin gigs, & as of September I'll be a YMCA Y-Change coach.  I'm pretty excited about what the future holds for me and whose lives I might help in the process.

What is a Y-Change Coach?

An experienced, committed and motivated Y-Change Coach will lead you through a 6-week journey toward a healthier lifestyle. Each week you will meet with your coach in a small group setting for a support and educational session, as well as meet two additional times to workout.

Now on to catch up with you guys!

Just stopping by....

To say helloooooo & give my Top 5!

#1. 12 Days until schools out!

~When I googled searched school's out, this is the image that popped up.  Oh yeah, I want to be driving this bus on June 10th!

This is my last year at the school I've been working at for five years.  I teach the same students each year and I've had my 6th graders since they were in 2nd grade.  I've watched them grow up and mature.  Just yesterday I was telling one of my students, "I remember when you were little you would cry when you didn't get the answer right." My prayer is that I made a positive impact on their lives and they'll at least remember one thing I taught them.  At 6th grade graduation I'll be the blubbery mess on isle three taking pictures of my daughter & my school kids.

#2. WSSC

~6 days until I jet off to the Miami coast line.  I get to eat, drink, & spin with my friends for 4 days.  I look forward to this trip each year and this year I'm even more excited.  Instead of turning my boo-tay into hamburger helper, I decided to mix it up.  I've signed up to listen to more lectures, learn bike repair, & even a kettlebell workshop.  I'll still come back with a sore boo-tay, but that's ok, that bootay is going to look great in my new bathing suit.

#3. FOXy People

-Living in the Hampton Roads area you meet tons of people in the military.  I get attached to them and then they leave me and go to another destination.  I told John once, "If I meet another chick that is in the military, we-aint-gonna-be-friends!" Well I broke my vow and met a couple that I adore!!!!! We're like peas & carrots.  I got the sad news that they'll be heading to California in July.  The difference between other friends that have moved away and them, is that with these guys will be my friends for life.  I love you Kelly & Chris!
"Bring on the tattoo gun!"

#4. Unexpected Surprises

-I received these flowers this week from someone that I never would have expected them from.
(No, not my husband or "G"...LOL...)

I've had a student in my class for two years and it's been a bumpy road.  The two years have been up and down with letters, phone calls, & conferences and I often wonder if the parents know how much I care for their children and want the very best for them.

I'm heading up to my room, I turn the corner and mom hands me this beautiful bouquet of flowers and says, "thank you for everything you've done."  Wow, it made my whole week.  It's times like these that I've been blessed with my teaching job.
