Oh Shim Sham!

In two weeks my friends Bob, Penny, & Sam are conquering the Shamrock on the shores of Virginia Beach with my husband and I.  They are all front, middle, & (me) back of the pack runners.  Once the gun goes off we'll all be off and running our "own" race.  After today's training run, I'm not sure where my pace may be but I'm hopefully going to beat my old PR 2:18.  My hopes were to run 13 today and it started off pretty well.  Around 9 1/2 the "shim sham" started and I could feel the old tank emptying pretty fast, I fueled up with gatorade/water and sport beans at mile 6 but I don't think it was enough.  I pushed really hard trying to fight the urge to just walk.  At 10.94 miles I turned the "baby" off and decided to walk the last two miles home.  The good news is, I think my problem was fuel and not pain. The knees were ok, I just had no energy. The walk home was beautiful, 73 degrees!  Thank you Nelly for getting me through the hard parts of my run today!
Now off to have my Green Smoothie and roll around with foamy!

In case you didn't catch it....

Here was the check list of things I had to remember for today's 12 mile run.

  • Gloves
  • Fuel
  • Water/Gatorade Mix
  • iPod with fresh tunes
  • Tissues
  • My baby ("G"armin)
  • Lip Stuff
I was on my way to get the twelve done and about 1/2 mile into the run, I remembered I forgot the most important thing......

Strap on, I ran a different route today and it was cold but the sun was shining which always makes a cold run 100x better.  Random things I passed on my new route.  I passed a bag that was placed precariously in the middle of the sidewalk that either looked like a little boy forgot his lunch before getting on the bus or a bomb was inside.  My kids school, but didn't see them.  I passed a park where a ton of Geese had Mardi Gras on the sidewalk.  I ran over a bunch of broken glass bottles, and passed an IHOP, where I wanted to run in and yell, "I WANT HOTCAKES NOW!" Passed a shady looking dude who looked like he wanted to put his cigarette out on my forehead.  Finally, the last uninteresting thing I passed, a dentist office I used to work at.

The run went ok, I thought I was running a pretty good pace when I would catch myself looking down at "G" and it would read "YOUR SLOW, PICK IT UP!" I'm glad I went back and got my strap, because the knees started tweaking around mile 10 and the last two miles were a bit of a struggle.  Overall I'm pleased with my performance and I'm 4 weeks away from Shamrock!

A Hairy White Run

Waking up to 55 degree weather was glorious!  I was so excited to retrieve the shorts from the back of my closet.  Ok, this might be "to much information" but I'm a below the knee shaver in the winter months.  Today if you saw a very white woman with golden brown hair blowing in the wind, that was me.  It's currently 70.6 degrees and I just love that spring is giving us a kiss in February.  I had to run 11 today, Shamrock is about 5 weeks away.  I had a lot of fun today, I ran in the warm weather, I didn't feel any pain, and I ran on some trail-like paths to lessen the impact on my joints.  I was slow today, but I enjoyed it.  Going to bounce to the shower and shave above the knees!

Cold, Wendy, & a Smile

Rest Of Today
Partly sunny and breezy. Highs in the mid 30s. North winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

It was a cold morning in the Old Dominion for the 10 miles I had to "get 'er done." I guess Wendy slept in this morning, but I ran into her cousin Gusty, this whole family is getting on my nerves.  I feel we may go to fist-a- cuffs the next time I go out for a run if this doesn't stop.  I have a huge smile of my face because I have no aches or pains and I shaved a couple minutes off of last weeks 10 miler.  Well I'm off to put some lipstick on, I think I'm having a nooner with my foam roller.

I stopped at 10!

Yesterday I pounded out 10 miles of the Hampton Roads area, 60 degrees & humid.  I was only going to do 9, but the route I was running ended up being 10.  I'll run this route one more time before bumping up to the 11 mile mark.  I had to smack Wendy around again today! Started out with a great pace, and of course I started to slow down towards the end, stopped once for fuel and potty.  Overall I feel great about my progress so far, a little tight in the hamstrings but my IT band didn't act up not even once. I'm off to go make love to my foam roller ...tootle loo......
