Excuse me while I go on a "Weslicious" rant here. I know that I'm basically preaching to the choir but let me savor this F'ing moment by sharing a few century training ride stories.
First, why did the old woman lay on her horn when I was basically riding in the drainage ditch? Excuse me sir, next time you're on your way to church could you not make a sudden U-Turn so that my husband and I eat your bumper? I also love muscle head Mike who likes to drive 60 mph and gets off seeing how close he can drive past two cyclists. Hey drivers, make sure you get through that light coming up because if your car is stopped at a red light I'm the crazy biznitch who is liable to say something inappropriate to you like, "share the road, punk!"
Second, hey cyclists I know it's really important to "get your miles in" but next time you see a stranded women on the side of the road (not me, but my twin) could you possibly take the time to stop and see if she needs help? Thanks!
On a lighter note, my husband and I got 51 in today and we felt great. Thank You Mr. Newton & Mrs. Nuun.
Want to share a lovely cycling story kidz?

why is it that mororists dislike cyclists so much?
i must say that the last time i had a flat, nearly every group of cyclists asked if i was okay (i was!). but once when my car died on the side of the road, the only person who asked if i needed help was someone who knew me.
I don't get it either. I rode yesterday mornign with a friend and a lady with road rage in a minivan honked at us and shaked her hand with a finger sticking out. I couldn't tell if she was pointing out a sidewalk that wasn't there for us to ride on or giving us the finger. I wanted to throw my water bottle at her, but that wouldn't have been a typical stacy move. LOL
Love the whorebags in the cars (aka soccer moms late for the game AND on the phone AND beating the child in the back seat all at the same time)...them and Sunday church goers might just be the worst. They're all late and willing to push you off the road.
Aren't we all supposed to have learned sharing in like kindergarten?
What's wrong with these people?
Only 20 year old stories at 6am on Saturday mornings with the drunks coming home. Thank goodness no stories in recent history
I think a lot of people whoa re aggressive in their cars are just jealous of the athletes out on the road and they show it by being, well, aggressive. Still, it's no excuse.
Just be careful out there! We've had two guys hit and killed in the last 6 months and I was involved in an incident http://justspinningyourwheels.blogspot.com/ a couple weeks ago. People are crazy but we have a role to play as well.
We lost a triathlete in Kentucky this weekend. I don't have anything nice to say. Rant away...
I'm pretty new to cycling, but yeah, why are cars so wreckless? I have a little pink helmet to protect me- you have a GIANT STEEL CAGE. Perhaps you should be more careful, driver!
I don't get some people. I hate those who have to drive by with just enough space between you and their car, especially when there isn't anybody else on the road.
Yeah, there is my last helmet on the shelf in the closet - basically a spare now - with 2 cracks in it where motorists threw things at me and I was lucky that they hit my helmet and not me. Then there is the piece of firewood thrown off the back of a pickup that hit the ground between me and the next rider a few years ago.
And just a general observation - at the risk of being called a racist - but why is it 99.5% of the problem drivers are white (and mostly male - must be testosterone thing)? Only twice in the last 20 years have I had a near miss and the driver either stop or come back to apologize - and both of them were black? Just a general observation.
And I am your typical (well, maybe not typical) white male!
It has been rough around here too lately for cyclists. I dont know what it is. Maybe the bad economy has people being total arse holes
hmmm Nuun but Fig Newtons! Get Fig Newmans and compare the ingredients...it's a shocker!
Not sure if it's me or them but aggressive drivers don't seem to bother me as much as they used to. Just keep putting yourself out there and don't ride too close to the side. That seems to encourage drivers to try to squeeze by without crossing the center line, I found out.
I feel your frustration! Aside from the stupid horn blowing for no reason, I was doing a MS charity ride a few weeks ago out in the country and 4 hick teenagers were blazing down the road going the opposite way. The passenger in front decided to throw something out the driver's window and it hit the bottom of my wheel. Luckily it caused no damage, but seriously?!? I am not a violent person, but oh the things I wanted to do to him...
